Mosaic
Commons:
Ongoing Participation Requirements
Because a cohousing
community depends on its associates and members to do the work of making the
community - physically and socially - happen, Mosaic Commons expects our Associates
and Equity Members to meet the following ongoing participation requirements
during the process of building our community:
- Attend meetings regularly and
workshops as scheduled. If you will be unable to attend more than one meeting
in a row, please notify the Coordinating team.
- Participate on at least one team
and perform action items necessary for the project to proceed. Each adult
is expected to take and complete a minimum of one action item or ongoing task
(including roles such as secretary, treasurer, action item manager, etc) each
month. All adults should participate whenever possible, but if at some point
you are unable to meet your participation requirements, other members of your
household may step in to assist.
- Work constructively with Mosaic
Commons community.
- Be familiar with and support
our decisions, policies, agreements, and legal documents. If you are unable
to attend a meeting, you are responsible for reviewing the minutes and bringing
up any concerns with decisions made in your absence promptly.
- Meet the financial requirements
applicable to your household.
If you are unable to meet these requirements,
you have the option of "stepping back" for a time. Stepping back from
the group means that you are unable to attend meetings or events regularly,
but will keep up on our progress and plan to rejoin at a later time.
- Finance: Associates who step back
may cease paying dues and restart when they rejoin. Equity Members who step
back will still need to fulfill their financial obligations unless other arrangements
are made with the Finance team.
- Seniority: If there is an impasse
in unit selection, the deciding factor will be seniority. Seniority will be
adjusted to subtract time spent "stepped back" from the group.
- Consensus Process: We ask that
you only participate in consensus process if you have been fully following
an issue. Those who are stepped back from the group are typically not participating
at this level.
- Workshops & closed meetings:
You are welcome to attend workshops and other closed meetings when you rejoin
the group.
If you have concerns with the participation
level of your or another household, please bring them up to the Coordinating
team. Individual circumstances will always be considered in cases where concerns
have been raised. The Coordinating team may choose to reduce requirements for
some households depending on their circumstances.
