Minutes of Mosaic Commons general meeting
Sunday, June 18, 2000, 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Location: Parmenter Health Services in Wayland
Meeting facilitator: Catya
Timekeeper:
Notetaker: Lisa

Present: Dave, Catya, Andey, Lisa, Adam, Joa, Zach

1. Opening activity

Catya. Discussion of meeting attendance, or lack thereof.

2. Review and approve minutes from last meeting.

The minutes were presented and approved. It was noted that the "next meeting" planned for 6/4 was canceled.

3. Treasurer’s Report

Not presented. Catya will email.

4. Committee Reports I

a. Coordinating: No report

b. Diversity/Affordability: Andey. Andey presented questions on how to proceed. She thinks that trying to pursue more information regarding affordable housing should wait until we know where we will be building. Diversity seems more of a membership issue at this point.

c. Professionals: No report. Robyn sent a packet from Laura Fitch, architect.

d. Site/land/building: No report.

e. Finance: No report.

5. Create Member Biographies

Catya. The members present completed their biographies by answering the eight questions presented at http://www.cohousingresources.com/Manual/WhoAreYou.htm

Members who were not present at the meeting are requested to complete their biography and email it to Catya.

6. Chris ScottHanson’s Visit

The dates of the visit are confirmed at August 26, 27, 28 and 29, Saturday through Tuesday. Catya will research what preparation work we need to do before the visit, although we know definitely that we need to do the group profile worksheet at the next meeting. It is linked from our web page’s "work in progress" page.

There will be two big meetings of the whole group with Chris during his visit, one at the beginning of his visit, one at the end.

The group brainstormed about possible social and outreach events to hold while he is here. Perhaps a public lecture?

7. Committee reports II

f. Website: Catya. The website has the orientation dates posted, and some new documents to look at.

g. Membership: Catya. The orientation in June went very well, there were 18 guests in attendance, and the feedback was good. People were pleased that we are looking at a relatively rapid timeline. New View forwarded their email list to us to publicize the event, and will do this again. Janet forwarded the Beth El email list, and Catya received three positive responses. Nothing has been done regarding email lists from other groups yet. We are planning a buddy system where if someone comes to an orientation, then they are assigned a member as a buddy to keep in touch with.

8. Paying for Boston Cohousing Network website

Catya. The group came to consensus on approving $30 for one third of the Boston Cohousing Network Website fees.

9. Marketing

Catya. Dave will get FAX numbers for more newspapers to send announcements to, and Andey will FAX the announcements. We still need someone to research adding senior publications, and to contact area senior centers to find out if we can send them fliers to post and/or announce our orientations in their newsletters (if they have one).

Other marketing thoughts for the short term were flyers in libraries, churches, grocery stores (particularly natural foods stores), doctor’s offices (and chiropractors, health clubs, yoga centers, acupuncturists, etc.). Catya will check on prices for ads in the back of Mothering Magazine and Vegetarian Times. Lisa will look into the SVS journal. Dave will check web search engines for us. It was suggested that someone write an article about us.

10. Time, place, agenda items for next meeting and social event

Next General Meetings: July 2, 16, 30?

Next Orientation: July 9 at 3:00

Next Social Event: June 25 at 3:00, Beaver Brook Reservation, Belmont.
