The Support of Community During a Job Change

Written by Sophie!

Living in co-housing can be a real emotional and practical boost during times of transition. After five years at a job, I left my position so that I could work closer to Mosaic. On my last day, two young helpers at my school and I spent hours packing my car with all my stuff. “How are going to unload all this when you get home?,” one of my young assistants asked. “Don’t worry,” I replied. “I live in a place where everyone knows each other and likes to help out”.

I drove safely home to my co-housing community in my fully stuffed vehicle. My husband had sent an email asking people for help unloading and to celebrate with me. Even though it was a weeknight, within twenty minutes of arriving, fifteen of my neighbors had shown up, fully unpacked my car, and brought all of my work materials inside. Then we celebrated, and for those who could linger, we had a toast, snacks, and sang songs for over an hour. It was truly grateful for this co-housing moment!
